Alina files nomination, Cong to decide 'other' candidates
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 14 May 2012 16:17 ISTAlina, wife of former tourism minister Matanhy Saldhana, filed her nomination as the Bharatiya Janata Party candidate today for the Cortalim bye-election.
Her name was officially cleared by BJP national president Nitin Gadkari on Saturday.
The Cortalim seat had fallen vacant with Matanhy suddenly dying of a heart attack on 21 March.
The bye- election would be held on 2 June while counting would take place on 15 June.
Alina was today accompanied by chief minister Manohar Parrikar and other party office bearers.
The Congress as well as other parties however are still undecided on its candidates.
The last date of filing nominations is 16 May.
Congress is still struggling between former Navelim MLA Churchill Alemao as well as two new aspirants - Raymond D'Sa and Cynthia D' Silva.
Caetano Xavier, who scored number three as the Congress candidate in the general Assembly election, is being ruled out.
The high command observers were compelled to consider Churchill’s name as he apparently threatened to quit Congress and contest from Cortalim in retaliation of Alemao family being considered the prime cause of the Congress debacle in the last Assembly poll.
On the other hand, the Nationalist Congress Party has also threatened to field parallel candidate as its local leaders were not even consulted while deciding Cortalim candidate.
NCP is the alliance partner of the Congress.
Meanwhile, Mickky Pacheco’s Goa Vikas Party and the United Goans Democratic Party are expected to decide their strategy only after Congress candidate is decided.
The UGDP initially hobnobbed with Churchill and later with Mickky, with a clear intention of fishing in the troubled waters. Both Churchill and Mickky are arch rivals.
Matanhy, in the last election, had GVP candidate Nelly Rodrigues as his closest rival.
But Rodrigues has backed out from the contest citing family issues while Mickky has said his live-in-partner and GVP president Viola Fernandes may contest.
UGDP’s Ramakant Borkar had polled sizeable votes last time. But his name is still not being declared once again.
While Congress ticket is being decided, the non-BJP forces are also considering to corner Alina on the issue of Mopa air port, in order to unitedly defeat her.
Cortalim has 26,652 registered voters, including 13,039 female voters.
Mr. Churchill and Mr. Micky are just jumping up and
down, they will not gain anything for Cortalim seat just
furious themselfes. They have no shame what they
done last election people reject Churchill but Micky
lucky because Verna/Nuvem women like his style.
So, they have to decide now before its too late. Any cost
people of Cortalim will vanish their face with crolex.
Alina will sure and certain will vow this seat.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT:::
Goans have tried and tested a "dish" called "Churchill Alemao", along with 4 other "side-dishes" that accompany it i.e Valanka, Yuri and Joaquim. The tasters & testers of Benaulim, Navelim, Cuncolim and Sanguem have discarded these dishes, as they are infected & corrupted with viruses, bacteria and have become deadly poisonous. All Goans , have at some time, and now at all times, suffered from diarrhoea from these dishes.
It has made many Goans start "PUKING"(vomiting) just at the sound of these dishes. However recently, 2 "DOTORS", called Radharao Gracias and Anacleto Viegas, not known for their good diagnostic skills, are deciding to launch this insipid & stomach churning dish, Called "Churchill Alemao" on the voters of Cortalim. They are hoping to re-launch & re-brand this dish, with their added ingredient & symbol, of 2 "Curry-Pathak" leaves. Unfortunately and well known to all Goans, the "Curry Pathak" leaves, nurtured by these 2 "DOTORS" have dried up and become tasteless and ineffective.
Sales at the last elections have not been good. No one bought them. Sales were so bad, that they even lost their franchise & holding deposits. Only the "Swine’s of Varca" are still known to harbour an interest and buy it. Connoisseurs’ of good and impeccable taste, would like to advise the voters of Cortalim Constituency, not to buy this dish or even dare try it.
It is better and highly recommended; they instead, try a new fresh dish called "ALINA SALDANHA". This new dish called "Alina Saldanha" is made up of "PURE" and "REAL" ingredients. It has never been corrupted or adulterated. And I am sure, with time and a little seasoning and a little maturing, like all good Goan dishes, this new dish will grow on you. So it is now down to the Voters of Cortalim to decide if they want the "REAL" thing or still prefer the "FAKES".!!!.
Also remember, the Main Dish,is now well passed its "use by date".
