21 constituencies vote over 80%

Goa Assembly election 2012

More than half, almost 21, constituencies have recorded over 80 per cent in the historic Assembly poll on 3 March.

11 among them have crossed 85 per cent, seven in the North and four in the South. (Please watch tables below)

These are Mandrem, Pernem, Bicholim, Sanquelim, Poriem, Valpoi and Priol in the North and Shiroda, Madkai, Sanvordem and Sanguem in the South.

The constituencies that recorded voting percentage between 80 to 85 are Tivim, Siolim, Calangute, St Cruz, Cumbarjua and Mayem in North Goa.

In the South however there are hardly four constituencies between 80 to 85 per cent voting. These are Ponda, Quepem, Curchorem and Canacona.

Compared to the voting in 2007 polls, however, more people came out in the South than in the North.

Constituencies like Vasco and Mormugao this time have recorded almost 18 per cent more polling than the last election.

Ten constituencies in the North have recorded 10 to 15 per cent more voting this time. They are Tivim, Mapusa, Siolim, Aldona, Taleigao, St Cruz, St Andre, Poriem and Priol.

In the South, 13 constituencies have recorded over 10 per cent more votes. These are Ponda, Shiroda, Mormugao, Vasco, Cortalim, Nuvem, Fatorda, Margao, Navelim, Cuncolim, Curchorem, Sanvordem and Sanguem.

Yet another significant observation is that the whole coastal Christian-dominated belt of South and Mormugao has not even touched 80 per cent voting.

The reason could be either that the registered voters are working abroad or they were not hit with the Parivartan wave.

These constituencies include Cortalim, Nuvem, Curtorim, Benaulim, Navelim, Cuncolim, Velim as well as Margao and Fatorda.

Good to see the voters exercising their franchise in such a large number..Next step should be to stop the use of money and muscle power in elections and this may need a strong effective watch dog in " Janlokpal" which could stop the collection of wealth by the corrupt in guise of serving the masses....The Election Commission also needs to have stronger teeth so as the common man can see it--- punishing the Politicians arrogantly challenging it and one after the other, and managing to get away--- without visible punishment.....

The voting would have increased by some percentage but due to departmental exam that is being conducted by BSNL on 4/3/2012 at mumbai many goans have already started for Mumbai without casting their VOTE.
