Crime Branch to probe case of PSI selling drugs

After exposure of a fresh tape of alleged involvement of a police sub inspector in selling drugs, Goa Police have transferred the case to the Crime Branch.

Police spokesman Atmaram Deshpande said the headquarters has decided to hand over the case to Crime branch for investigation.

Police Sub Inspector Sunil Guddler, who has been shown, selling drugs to two foreign girls, however, has not been suspended.

A local channel, Prudent media, which released the tape last night had shown the PSI negotiating with two unidentified foreigner girls in a room over the sale of drugs.

Deshpande said the inquiry would be conducted into the tapes by Superintendent of Police (Crime) Mangaldas Naik.

“We are waiting to see if more clippings are coming from the channel or any other media to decide further action,” the spokesman said.

He said the matter was referred to crime branch because `some kind of involvement of Guddler (PSI)’ was shown in the tapes.

The recent revelation by media has come as a fresh embarrassment for Goa police, who had to arrest seven of its officials last year for allegedly having nexus with Israeli drug peddler Yaniv Benaim alias Atala.

Incidently, Guddler had arrested police inspector Ashish Shirodkar for his involvement in the drug nexus.

The PSI was also honoured with the certificate by Director General of Police B S Bassi for arresting drug lord David Driham alias Dudu, who was found with the cocktail of drugs in the coastal belt.

Deshpande said it would be premature to say whether the fresh revelations have any links with the earlier drug nexus case. “Let the inquiry happen,” he said.

Police have also not ruled out interrogation of former superintendent of police (ANC) Veenu Bansal in this case as Guddler was working under his commands.
