Goa decides to strengthen cyclone warning management

Goa would be more prepared to forecast cyclone warning and tracking probably by next year.
The state cabinet has decided to implement the national cyclone risk mitigation project by spending merely Rs 35 crore.
“We will make provision for this necessary project in the next budget and implement it by the end of next year”, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar said today after the cabinet meeting.
The project worth Rs 140 crore would be funded by the centre on 75:25 cost sharing.
The project would provide cyclone forecasting, tracking and warning systems, cyclone risk mitigation and capacity building in multi-hazard risk management.
The infrastructure to be built under it is multipurpose cyclone shelters, access roads, saline embankments and underground cabling.
The project, implemented by National Disaster Management Authority, would concentrate primarily the 105-km long coastal belt of the state.
Goa would be part of the nationwide implementation in its second phase.
