Guv concerned over crime against women

Goa Governor has expressed concern over increasing crime against women while greeting Goans on the eve of 26th Goa Statehood Day while chief minister has also asked for introspection over the progress Goa has made.

Governor Bharat Vir Wanchoo, in his Statehood Day message stated:

“I express deep and serious concern over the frequent occurrence of grave and heinous crimes, particularly against our women folk and young girls in our otherwise peaceful and progressive State.”

“Such incidents highlight the degradation of traditional values of society. This new trend of crimes, alarming as it is, in a small state like Goa, has the potential to lower its image and fair name.  This is an unfortunate and sad situation which causes considerable worry and anxiety. All of us together need to make well-coordinated and sustained efforts to redress this issue”.

While highlighting major achievements of Goa in last 26 years, the Governor also appreciated the tolerance and peaceful manner in which Goans are pursuing the issue of mining ban, without resorting to extreme methods.

Besides the state government, “on  my own, I have apprised the Central Government  about this matter from time to time and sought their sympathetic consideration and intervention. Let us hope and pray for a positive outcome in this regard he added”, Wanchoo stated in his message.

Chief minister Manohar Parrikar also stated in his message that after attaining Statehood in 1987, “the successive State Governments always endeavoured and initiated efforts to strengthen infrastructural facilities and formulated various welfare schemes to improve  the living conditions of the people of Goa”.

“This is also an occasion to introspect and review the progress and achievements made by the State after attaining Liberation and Statehood”, he stated.
