Goan youth don't want tourism jobs in Goa

Goa is an international hub for tourists coming from abroad, but Goan youth trained in hospitality industry do not want to work here. They prefer going abroad.

This was disclosed by labour minister Francisco D’Souza in the Assembly today.

The discussion was on Industrial Training Institutes the state is running with several job-oriented trades.

When Congress MLA Vishwajeet Rane demanded that stress be given upon hospitality trade, D’Souza said maximum youth who pass out from this trade take six-month experience certificate and go abroad.

He also disclosed that Tata Motors from Pune had selected at the Job Mela organized by the department almost 80 boys for placements.

“But half of them said they don’t want to go and work in Pune, that too in shifts”, said D’Souza.

Their first preference is working abroad or they prefer Goa, but not anywhere else in the country.

He however agreed that the government needs to scrap some of the trades which are not feasible and introduce new trades required for Goa.

D’Souza also announced that the government is planning to start new ITIs in Porvorim and Dharbandora.

“We will try and have state of the art facilities there”, he assured.
