Drunk driver jailed, another Goan victim identified in Khed bus accident

Santaji Keerdatt, driver of the bus that killed 37 passengers at Khed near Ratnagiri on Tuesday, has been charged for drinking while driving and remanded to two-day police custody.
The medical examination has established that Santaji was drunk when the buss fell into the Jagbudi river at 3 am on Tuesday.
The police produced him in the court, seeking remand, after arresting him.
Meanwhile, the toll of Goan victims rose to 16 with police identifying another Goan passenger , 43-year old Maria David Gobert settled in Australia.
Eight among the 16 Goan victims were living in Goa, four living in Mumbai while three Rajasthanis were settled in Goa.
Dead bodies of the Goan accident victims were brought Goa to final rites.
The tragedy cost Goa three young engineers – Bento D’Costa and Reagan Fernandes, both marine engineers working together at V Shipping company in Mumbai.
Vivek Powar was a chemical engineer, from Quepem.
32-year old Ajaya Yeshwant Kamat was working at VerGo Pharma Research Laboratory at Verna and was to go to Japan next week for training.
Patrick Francis Mendes from Pomburpa was working overseas and was going to Mumbai to his office to find out about his future assignment.
