Mining dependents to hold dharna in Delhi on 15-16 Apr

Around 1000 mining-dependent people will march to Delhi to hold 48-hour dharna at Jantar Mantar on 15 and 26 April, to draw attention of the Central government and the Supreme Court to the woes of Goan affected due to mining ban.
The Goa Mining People’s Front has temporarily suspended its 71-day long demonstration held at Azad Maidan in Panaji, from today.
Front convenor Adv Suhas Naik said their next move would to intensify the struggle, after returning from Delhi, by going to villages to seek support of Goans for the issue.
“We will somehow manage to go, don’t undermine our struggle”, said trade union leader Christopher Fonseca when a media person asked who will bear the cost of going to Delhi with such a huge number.
The Front has also appealed to all the 40 MLAs to unanimously pass a resolution in the ongoing Assembly session to support resumption of mining.
“We also appeal to chief minister Manohar Parrikar and opposition leader Pratapsing Rane to jointly lead an all-party delegation to the Center”, said Adv Naik.
The Front has also urged both the central and state governments to jointly and effectively represent the case of mining before the Supreme Court.
In the meanwhile, on the lines of Parrikar’s initiative to support the mining dependents with schemes worth Rs 140 crore, the Front has appealed to the central government to declare adequate financial package to the mining dependent people.
They have also urged the Reserve Bank of India to defer the repayment of loans and waive of the interest of the borrowings taken by the truck operators, barge and launch operators, earthmoving machine operators, workshops, garages, bus operators and other mining dependent people.
