Congress moves on the street, burns Modi’s effigy in Bicholim

With Assembly election coming close, the opposition Congress has started coming on the streets, led together by opposition leader Pratapsing Rane and organisation leader Luizinho Faleiro.

Over 150 Congress workers from Bicholim, Sankhli and Mayem constituencies today staged a demonstration in front of Bicholim Mamlatdar office.

While condemning the inaction against increasing intolerance, the Congress also burnt the effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Addressing a public meeting after the rally, Rane alleged that the BJP administration has totally failed and the false promises it has given has resulted into unemployment, corruption and social tensions.

He also demanded early solution to the ongoing mining problem and immediate resumption of mining activity since around two lakh people have suffered for almost for three years due to closure of mining.

GPCC president Faleiro, while criticising the BJP government for its failure on all the fronts, announced that the opposition party would now start going to the grassroot level.

Former Congress MLA Pratap Gauns, AICC secretary Girish Chodankar, Manohar Shirodkar and Sunil Kawathankar also spoke at the meeting, which was held after a morcha went around the town.

They also submitted a memorandum to deputy collector Mahadev Arondekar, demanding early resumption of mining.
