Tejpal to be locked up at Panaji police station

High profile Tehelka founder and rape accused will have to spend his days and nights in a common police lock up since the Panaji police station has only one cell for the male accused.
Though Tejpal has been arrested by the crime branch of Goa police on rape charges, the branch situated at Dona Paula in Panaji has no lock up of its own.
All the accused arrested by the crime branch are always transferred to the Panaji town police station lock up.
This police station has only three cells, two for the men and one for the women accused.
Presently, sources said, two murder accused have been locked up at the Panaji police station.
Tejpal will have to thus spend time along with other criminals in the lock-up, unless he complains of chest pain etc and manages to get himself admitted in the Goa Medical College hospital.
While he was formally arrested at 9 pm (as registered in the arrest register), he was to be taken to GMC hospital for medical examination later at night.
He is presently facing charges of rape, rape by a person of a woman in his custody taking advantage of his official position, committing persistent sexual assault and outraging modesty.
The charges have a punishment of minimum ten years and up to a life term.
While rejecting his anticipatory bail, the district and sessions court has granted him facility of home food as well as meeting his family, friends and lawyers.
