Root out drug menace in 3 months, demand BJP MLAs

Legislators of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party have urged chief minister Manohar Parrikar to root out the menace of drug trade and illegally staying foreigners within three months.
“Even we will demand a judicial probe if the police cannot complete this task in three months”, four BJP legislators told a press conference today evening.
BJP legislature party meeting, attended by the chief minister, was followed by a press conference addressed by industries minister Mahadev Naik as well as MLAs Subhash Faldesai, Nilesh Cabral and Pramod Sawant.
The meeting congratulated Parrikar and the police department for swiftly moving into action to control the situation at Porvorim, where a group of hefty and violent Nigerians blocked the traffic yesterday for over three hours.
“Our government was not responsible for the law and order situation that occurred due to the murder of a Nigerian. But the state immediately took action against the hooligans”, said Cabral.
The police have so far arrested 52 Nigerians, who have been remanded to 14-day judicial custody.
Adding to this, Naik flayed the opposition parties for raising a bogey of failure of law and order when the situation was brought under control within two hours.
If police had ordered lathicharge at Porvorim when Nigerians were literally dancing on the streets, Goa’s name would have been spoiled at international level. Rather, the police patiently calmed down the situation, said Faldesai.
