Singh, along with five others arrested past midnight, have been remanded to seven-day police custody after they were produced in the court today.

Panaji police said the group of three led by the SP MLA had come to the dance bar at Viva Goa in a locality of Panaji, after playing on the off shore casino.

Police are verifying the legality of the dance bar run in the heart of the city.

The other members of Singh’s group are Ajay Pratap and Dharmendra Prasad.

Singh is the MLA of Sewata constituency of Sitapur district, said the police.

The police have also arrested Babu Ghanta from Hyderabad, who was running the hotel, as well as two Nepalis – Sanjiv Saba and Kamal Thapa.

Three others are still absconding, said the police.

The police raided the hotel after receiving complaints from the residents about loud music being played at `1 am.

The hotel operator learnt to have erected a make-shift dance bar as well as small wooden ‘bedrooms’ on the terrace of the hotel.

All the accused have been arrested under sections 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 of IPC, which include congnisable offences which are non-bailable, said the police.

This could be just tip of the ice berg. There could be more such illegal dance bars in the city.

We do not need dance bars in Goa.
