Gang attacks rail boys, liquor smuggling suspected

A horrifying incident was witnessed at Margao railway station on Saturday midnight with around 10 bootleggers attacking around 12 youngsters selling eatables in the railway compartments, with iron pipes and rods.
One of the youth is seriously injured while seven others have their bones fractured as the bootleggers attacked them while they were sleeping in rented hutments near the railway station.
While Margao police officials are mum over the motive behind the attack, sources disclosed to goanews.com that a liquor smuggling gang could be behind the attack.
The attack has taken place after Margao railway police cracked down on the liquor smuggling lobby few days ago.
It is suspected that the gangsters attacked these boys for believably passing on information to the police about the liquor smuggling.
The Margao police have filed a case against suspects Sunil, Deshbabu and Jitu – the bootleggers, under sections 143, 147, 149, 324 & 452 of the IPC.
None of them has been arrested so far. PSI Ajit Umarye is investigating the case.
Sources disclosed to goanews.com that the gangsters even threatened the Railway Protection Force personnel, when they rushed to the spot, threatening to kill them with revolvers.
The RPF personnel had only wooden lathis with them and no arms.
The victims were sleeping in their rented premises near the Margao railway station when the bootlegger equipped with iron pipes, rods and sticks attacked them mercilessly.
The Margao police registered the case based on a complaint filed by the RPF.
The PCR van of Margao police station rushed to the spot and admitted bloodstained injured to the Hospicio hospital.
Raju Kailas Mahato among them is serious with his both hands fractured and receiving head injury.
Rajendra Kumar, Shankar Prasad, Surendra Kumar and Sunny Kumar have fractured their hands and legs.
The police are also suspecting hand of a wholesale liquor shop near Margao railway station, from where the liquor was believed to have been getting smuggled through railways.
