Vasco rape case to be referred to CBI

Goa government has decided to hand over Vasco rape case to the Central Bureau of Investigation.

The rape case had rocked the whole state as a six-year old student was raped in a toilet of a reputed school from Vasco on 14 January.

In spite of all the efforts, the crime branch of Goa police could not crack the case in last four and a half months.

Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar today confirmed that he has already sent written instruction to the Goa police to refer the case to the CBI.

“Our police had done all sincere efforts to apprehend the absconding culprit. Now let the CBI do it”, he told goanenws.com.

The chief minister also said the police had not left any stone unturned and all the suspects were thoroughly interrogated besides probing into all the possible angles.

There were series of protests by the civil society and even the headmistress was suspended, alleging that she had tried to destroy the evidence by washing the traumatized victim and her dress.

The case was also referred to the Goa Children’s Court with allegations that the close kin of the headmistress was involved in the rape.

However, the police even through the Interpol confirmed that the alleged nephew of the headmistress had not entered Goa from Dubai during this period.

The police had even released sketches of the suspect, after talking to the victim girl as well as the teachers and the headmistress, who had seen one suspect in the school premises on that day little before the rape incident had occurred.
