Govt to demolish Narvekar's illegal jetty

Goa government has decided to take action against the illegal jetty built by former Congress minister Dayanand Narvekar’s wife Sushma.

The issue was raised by Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte.

Chief minister Manohar Parrikar assured him to take action against the illegal jetty built at Malim by M/s Golden Heritage Pvt Ltd.

In his reply, Parrikar admitted that only one jetty has been built illegally against 29 legal jetties built along river Mandovi and its tributaries.

“I have already issued direction to the department to take action against the jetty”, Parrikar told the House.

According to Parrikar, the company has already been issued a notice to demolish the jetty and restore the land.

“If the company does not do it we will demolish it," Parrikar said.

Most of the legal jetties however been built by mining companies, mostly at Cotombi, Surla, Amona, Vagus and Navelim.

Replying to Sankhli MLA Pramod Sawant’s question, Parrikar said private parties could apply to use these jetties, as they are presently lying idle due to mining ban.
