Govt assures prompt inquiry into drug nexus case

Goa Government has assured a "prompt and unbiased" inquiry into the alleged police-drug peddler nexus in which six policemen were arrested.

"We will go through the demands of political parties. But as far as government is concerned we will initiate a prompt and unbiased inquiry into the case," Chief Secretary Sanjay Srivastav told the media persons.

Srivastav, however, did not specify the nature of inquiry to be conducted into the case, which came to light in April when an Israeli drug peddler was caught on camera bragging about his alleged links with policemen in the state.

Main Opposition BJP and National Students Union of India (NSUI), a wing of ruling Congress, have demanded a probe either by CBI or National Investigation Agency (NIA).

Srivastav said the Government has gone through media reports about involvement of a senior Goa politician's son in the drug trade.

"We are looking into all aspects," he said, but declined to comment on the political aspect of the issue.

Crime Branch is already inquiring into the case, which is being monitored by Director General of Police, he said.

Asked why the police had not recorded the statement of Lucky Farmhouse, a key witness and ex-girlfriend of Israeli drug peddler Atala alias Yaniv Benaim, Srivastav said he will have to check the status of the case before commenting on it.

The arrested policemen are out on bail.

I think Chief Secretary Sanjay Srivastav should get rid of his suit and tie. He should then roll his sleeves up and get on with the Job. Chief Secretary Sanjay Srivastav please remember "ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS. PLease save your children, other children and future generations from these scumbags and criminally intentioned people.

Please twist Ravi Naik by his ears and take him to a "Rave Party" or a Shack. The Director General of Police too seems impotent. He too reckons there are no drugs in Goa. I wonder if the DGP is living in the real world.

If PROMPT enquiry takes so long, I wonder how long slow enquiry will take. The Ashish & his gang incident took place at least 2 months before the Nadia Torrado incident. Mickky was in Hiding for more than a month. If the Goa Police can act promptly against mickky, then how come the case of the drug dealing cops still dragging along since five or six months? It is evident that the Police are under pressure from Ravi Naik to get his son out of the mess and show off a clean image of his. SP Mr. Deshpande & Chief Secretary Sanjay should clarify more on this. Mr. Deshpande has shown overenthusiasm over the case of Mickky Pacheco while maintaining a very very low profile on the Police drugs nexus case.

Mr. Rajeev Hede's question to the Chief Secretary Sanjay is a good question and i fully support for this marvelous question what thats mean PROMPT & UNBIASSED. Goa Police Department/CID open file and henceforth closed without proper action and then clean up.The godfather like politician/minister have magic power otherwise you will be transferred the police department helpless. But few of them really honest to their godfather, these have to dig out and finish off

such systems in Goa.l

Is unbiased inquiry possible by the administration when the influential and powerful people names are connected ?

vishwas prabhudesai , loliem

When one officer of the administration, working under a politician from whom he has to take orders, and whose son is involved in drug peddling scandal, tells that prompt and unbiased inquiry will be conducted and that too after the police in custody are out,-- who will have any iota of faith in his statement? The experience of the common man tells him that the officers can never investigate against the masters for whom they are working! There are many reasons for all this and are known to the public! Why fool the public by such silly statements?
