Eng implementation from this yr itself: Babush

Goa Education Minister Babush Monseratte today said that the amendment to Medium of Instruction (MoI) recognising English would be implemented from ongoing academic year itself.

“We are in the process and it will be implemented this academic year itself,” Monseratte told PTI responding to a question on uncertainty over MoI issue.

He was reacting in the background of the news that the state-level monitoring committee has referred the decision back to the cabinet as well as the law department, citing several discrepancies.

Monseratte has said that he has not received any such report.

“I have not received any such report. There is no question of referring back it to cabinet, which has already cleared the issue,” the minister said.

He is expecting the report from the committee by Monday, 27 June.

Diocesan Society of Education has decried the decision, while questioning the role of the education department in implementing the cabinet decision.

"The department should have taken legal opinion much before issuing the circular”, said Fr Jafferino D’Souza.

Monseratte said that even if there are any legal hurdles in implementing MoI decision, the law department will take care of that.
