60 students to get para-medical edu at GMC

Goa government today launched five para-medical courses in health science at the Goa Medical College, with 60 seats.
While inaugurating it, chief minister Manohar Parrikar also said the government would set up an independent Institute for Allied Health Science Courses on the lines of various other governments institutes.
The courses, affiliated to Goa University, are Bachelor of Physiotherapy, Bachelor of Occupational Therapy, Bachelor of Optometry, BSc in Medical Imaging Technology and BSc in Aneasthesia Technology
BSc in Aneasthesia Technology will have 20 seats while the rest four courses will have 10 seats each.
The courses will provide opportunity of getting employed immediately on completion of such courses, assured Parrikar.
Varied and better job prospects await such courses both within the country and outside, offering equal or more pay package than doctors, remarked the Chief Minister.
Medicine is becoming engineering to a lot of extent as doctors needs to handle hi-tech equipment, requiring repairs at regular intervals, he said.
As water scarcity at GMC had become a major issue last week with even the Human Rights Commission taking cognisance of it, Parrikar said a four MLD affluent Treatment plant will come up in next four months that would provide enough water for drinking, cooking and even gardening.
Health Minister Laxmikant Parsekar on the occasion the goernment is also planning to increase seats at government-run Nursing College, to meet the growing needs of nurses.
Goa University vice chancellor Dr Satish Shetye also spoke on the occasion.
The function was also attended by health principal secretary Parimal Rai and Dr Jagdish Cacodkar.
GMC Dean Dr V N Jindal welcomed while Course Coordinator Dr Pradeep Naik proposed a vote of thanks. Dr Dayanand Rao compered the function.
