Goa-Karnataka CMs to meet over Mhadei
PTI, BANGALORE | 25 January 2010 12:53 ISTUnion Water Resources Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal has convened a meeting of chief ministers of Karnataka and Goa on February 5 to resolve dispute over sharing of Mhadei river water.
The meeting would be held in New Delhi, Karnataka Water Resources Minister Basavaraj Bommai said in a statement here today.
Goa is opposed to Karnataka's plans to set up Kalasa Bandori Nala drinking water project.
The minister said the state would effectively place its views on the proposed project, which envisages utilisation of 7.5 tmc ft of water from the river to provide drinking water in Hubli-Dharwad areas.
Karnataka has been opposing the Centre's move to set up a tribunal to adjudicate the dispute.
