Previlege motions against CM, Guv's OSD
08 February 2005 00:04 IST Goa speaker has served notices of breach of privilege motion on chief minister Pratapsing Rane and Sebastian Zumvu, the OSD of Governor S C Jamir.
The breach of privilege motions have been moved by two Bharatiya Janata Party legislators, whose government was toppled a week ago by the Congress-led alliance.
The notice served on Rane alleges that the chief minister was sitting in the speaker’s chair after the confidence motion was passed and the speaker moved into his cabin on 2 February.
Zumvu however has been charged of criticising the government, on behalf of the state governor, in spite of earning salary from the state treasury.
Zumvu’s press note, released on 3 February, had justified governor’s action to dismiss the Manohar Parrikar government the previous day, while also coming down heavily on the speaker.
Speaker Vishwas Satarkar has instructed Zumvu to file his reply by 10 February while the chief minister has been given time till 16 February.
Meanwhile, the BJP here began its dharna, beginning with Panaji, demanding removal of the governor.
The dharnas, to be held in each taluka every day, will continue till 16 February. Several national leaders, including the opposition leader L K Advani, would address public meetings in Goa.
