BJP demandes Rane's dismissal

The Bharatiya Janata Party has demanded immediate dismissal of the Congress-led alliance government, claiming that chief minister Pratapsing Rane has failed to win the trust vote.

Speaker Vishwas Satarkar, belonging to the BJP, today adjourned the House sine die even before moving the motion, while he along with the deputy speaker also resigned from their respective posts.

Rane however claims that this is not at all a constitutional crisis and the governor could take a decision in such a situation.

According to former chief minister Manohar Parrikar, similar situation has arisen when the governor had dismissed his government on 2 February, when he could not seek confidence vote but was dismissed later.

BJP local president Rajendra Arlekar said the BJP would stake claim to form the government after Rane government was dismissed.

“I have enough number to form the government”, said Parrikar, supporting Arlekar’s statement.
