Goa police wants Special PP for Samant case, bail hearing on Fri

Goa police have asked the government to appoint a special public prosecutor to argue the case of senior journalist Rupesh Samant, who is not traceable even after serving eighth summons in last 15 days.
His anticipatory bail application, filed on 26 September, will be heard on Friday morning.
Women’s Police PI Sudiksha Naik told goanews.com that they have written to Director of Prosecution to appoint a special public prosecutor to argue the Samant case.
Meanwhile, the regular PP will argue the case tomorrow if no special PP is appointed immediately.
Samant, former head of HCN cable TV channel and Goa bureau chief of PTI, is slapped with four complaints of sexual harassment made by women employees working under him, from 2012 till date.
Since the first complaint was filed on 25 September, police have not succeeded in getting him for interrogation, in spite of serving series of summons.
“He is found neither at his Altinho residence nor at Honda”, said PI Naik.
Meanwhile, the police have recorded over 15 statements of witnesses to his acts of sexual harassment, in order to press for his arrest.
A senior police official told goanews.com that they have not moved to arrest him in view of the anticipatory bail application.
Hearing on his bail application has been adjourned twice, once on 28 September and then yesterday since the judge was on sick leave.
Mapusa District and Sessions judge Vijaya Poll will hear it tomorrow morning.
Meanwhile, the Goa State Women’s Commission has directed Goa police to expedite the Samant case with a fair and speedy investigation.
The Goa Union of Journalists had urged the Women’s Commission to intervene into the matter.
