IFFI delegate fee hiked by over 300%, it's free for students

The International Film Festival of India has increased the delegate fee by over 300 per cent this year, while making the 10-day event free for students.

Unlike Rs 300, the delegate fee from this year would be Rs 1000. The late fee would be Rs 1500.

The 10-day extravaganza of national and international films, organized by Government of India in Goa, has opened the delegate registration online.

IFFI would begin on 20 November with an opening ceremony at Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Indoor Stadium in the Goa University campus.

Damu Naik, the chairman of Governing Council of Entertainment Society of Goa, told goanews.com that the additional money would be utilized to provide additional facilities to the delegates, which would be worth more than Rs 1000.

“We also want genuine people interested in reality cinema as delegates and not anybody and everybody”, he said.

The decision is taken by the steering committee of IFFI, he said, in view of making the festival more of a film event and less of a mere festivity.

The steering committee includes veteran film makers as well as the Information and Broadcasting Ministry, Government of Goa, ESG, Directorate of Film Festival etc.

Is the Government wants to make it a high class film festival, which common man cannot afford?

“No”, said Naik, “on the contrary, we want to make it more public oriented, but for those who are actually interested in serious cinema and its technicalities.”

He said the IFFI from this year would have more seminars and workshops related to cinema as well making most of the things available online to the delegates.

“We will also cover the cost of student and press delegates, who will have free registration, through the hiked registration fee”, he said.

A press note released in this regard stated that students will have to pay Rs 300 only if they need a kit of brochures and other information.

Student delegates are told to carry their college ID card for verification at the time of collection of delegate cards.

The last date for delegate registration is 5 November.

Media persons will also be provided media cards by 16 November, provided they register by 31 October.

The latecomer medi would get its cards after 20 November, stated the press release.
