BJP cadres to 'assist' Goa Govt in running buses and ferries tomorrow

Ruling Bharatiya Janata Party has decided to join hands with the government machinery in foiling any attempts of a forceful bandh tomorrow, 2 September.

“We will not stop anybody from voluntarily participating in Goa Bandh, but our Kadamba buses and ferry boats would run”, said chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar.

In a separately convened press conference, BJP leader and MLA Dr Pramod Sawant said all the BJP cadres would help the state machinery to stop any kind of forceful action by the strikers.

Goa Bandh is part of a nationwide call of Bandh given in protest of the Road Motor Transport and Safety Bill, which the central government is planning to bring.

Almost 18 trade unions and other organisations have joined together to make the Bandh a success tomorrow.

It includes unions controlling Kadamba Transport Corporation buses as well as ferry boats run by the Navigation department.

In addition, electricity employees are also joining the strike.

In view of this, the government has already invoked the Essential Services Maintenance Act, making the strike notices issued by the unions illegal.

“We will take strict action against our own employees if they participate in the bandh”, warned Parsekar.

He also claimed that KTC buses as well as ferry boats would run as usual.

The government has also assured to provide police protection to the shops and other business establishments.

“We have made all the necessary arrangements to tackle the Bandh”, he said.
