Missing JICA file is with crime branch, RTI tells Digambar
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 12 August 2015 23:22 ISTFormer chief minister Digambar Kamat’s counsel threw a bomb shell in the court today, stating that the missing file of JICA project is actually with the crime branch of Goa police.
Adv Surendra Desai, while arguing on the anticipatory bail application of Kamat, said he is in possession of a reply to RTI application in this regard.
According to him, the office of JICA-funded project had replied to the Right to Information application, stating that the JICA file is taken by the crime branch officials.
The police officials had searched the whole office of JICA project and had seized lots of documents.
Udaykumar Mandevalkar, the surveyor of the project and the information officer, has stated in his reply that the JICA file is in the possession of the crime branch.
The missing file has become a bone of contention in the whole investigation of the Louis Berger bribery case.
Both Kamat as well as his former cabinet colleague and then PWD minister Churchill Alemao are being charged for either destroying or hiding the crucial file.
The crime branch sources deny of having the file with them.
However, the issue of the file could overturn the whole issue of anticipatory bail application since the police have emphasised on Kamat’s custody to know about the file.
Otherwise, the evidence gathered against Kamat as well as Alemao is identical.
Alemao is already in the police lock up.
