Modi promises Zuari briidge & Sagar Mala benefits

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has floated an idea of Sagar Mala for the development of coastal states and promised a new Zuari bridge, while laying foundation stone for a third Mandovi bridge.

He unveiled a plaque for foundation of the third Mandovi bridge in chief minister Manohar Parrikar’s Panaji constituency, at a function held at Kala Academy today evening.

Modi said he has in his mind a concept of connecting all the coastal states and the ports with a well-knit network of railway, road and sea links throughout the country.

“Goa will benefit it most from it,” said the prime minister.

He also assured that the Rs 470-crore Mandovi bridge would be completed in next 20 months, as scheduled.

The third bridge includes also a flyover that would bypass the main chunk of traffic entering the capital city.

The bridge would be 15 metres above the existing twin ones on Mandovi river and it would be illuminated with the LED lights in the night, he said.

The state-run Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation would be the nodal agency to execute this project and the construction will begin after the monsoons.

The Prime Minister said the priorities of the Central Government are to build up infrastructural projects in the country, generate employment opportunities to the youths and several other projects.

Chief Minister Manohar expressed happiness over the honour bestowed on the State by the Prime Minister by visiting it first than any other state in the country after assuming the office.

Those present on the occasion were union minister of state for culture and tourism Shripad Naik,   defence minister Inderjit Singh Rao, Deputy Chief Minister Francisco D’Souza, PWD Minister Sudin Dhawalikar, Vice Chairman of GSIDC Dr. Pramod Sawant and State BJP President Vinay Tendulkar.
