Czech Jiri & Indian Waheeda honoured at IFFI
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 20 November 2013 20:21 ISTTwo film legends –Czech filmmaker Jiri Menzel and Bollywood veteran actor Waheeda Rehman – were felicitated for their lifetime contribution to cinema at the 44th International Film Festival of India today evening.
Unlike in the past, this edition of IFFI was full of popular film personalities from India as well as abroad.
In their presence as well as 2000-strong crowd, Czech filmmaker Jiri Menzel was honoured with life-time achievement award.
“I am happy and proud to know that my films are watched and appreciated far away in India”, said Menzel, while responding to the felicitation.
He was feted at the hands of union information and broadcasting minister Manish Tewari, Goa chief minister Manohar Parrikar and Bollywood filmmaker Ramesh Sippy.
Similarly, Indian film actor Waheeda Rehman was honoured with the first cinema centenary award at the colorful function held in Panaji today.
Tewari and Parrikar were accompanied by Bollywood actors Jackey Shroff and Ranee Mukherjee to felicitate her.
“I am honoured and feel humbled with this award”, she said in reply.
Both the legends were accorded a standing ovation by the whole crowd, including several film personalities, while being feted.
It included Hollywood actor Susan Serendon, veteran Indian singer Asha Bhosle, Kamal Hassan, Rekha, Nana Patekar, Dipti Nawal, Divya Dutt and several others.
