BJP Govt recruited more minorities than Cong-NCP: Parrikar
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 22 October 2013 22:28 IST
Chief minister Manohar Parrikar has claimed his government has employed more number of minorities – both Christians and Muslims – than in the erstwhile regime of Congress-NCP, in the police department.
An allegation in this regard was made by NCP local president Nilkanth Halarnkar, alleging that minorities are not getting enough employment opportunities in the regime of BJP-led alliance.
He had said only 26 Christians (4 per cent) were employed as police constables out of total 643 recruits. Similarly, only 17 (3 per cent) were Muslims recruits.
Countering this allegation, Parrikar today provided total statistics of police recruitment during five-year regime of Congress-NCP against his one-and-a-half-year regime.
"Both the parties are perpetrating falsehood in the name of communalism. They are trying to paint the BJP-led government as communal, but the fact is that NCP and Congress are the most communal parties," Parrikar reacted during a press conference here today.
According to the statistical data he provided, the Congress-NCP regime in five years recruited 77 Christians and Muslims in the police department out of total 2132 recruits.
The BJP-led alliance on the other hand has recruited 72 from both the minority communities out of total 1100 recruits.
This amounts to total 3.61 per cent Christian and Muslim recruits during the five-year Cong-NCP regime while 6.51 per cent recruitment of both the minority communities in one and a half years BJP-led alliance regime.
The difference is almost three per cent, though it is a fact that majority population of minorities do not come forward to join police department.
