SC to dispose all petitions together in one go

The Supreme Court has finally decided to combine all the petitions together and pass the judgement on Goa’s mining ban case after hearing it till the end.
Accordingly, the hearing would resume next week on Tuesday and will go on till all the sides are heard.
The forest bench thus passed an order today morning, transferring around 10 to 12 writ petitions filed by mining companies and lease holders, lying in the Bombay High Court at Goa, against the Shah Commission report.
The Bombay High Court has been directed to produce the records of all the petitions in the Supreme Court within a week.
The apex court has decided to hear all these petitions together and dispose it of along with Goa Foundation petition.
The bench, headed by Justice A K Patnaik, also consists of Justice S S Nijjar and Justice F M I Kalifulla.
The bench also agreed to take up one hundred claims filed by Goa Paryavaran Suraksha Samittee against over 100 mining companies for environmental damages done by their individual mines.
These claims were pending before the National Green Tribunal.
Goa Mining Peoples Front convenor Adv Suhas Naik, who was also present in the court today, expressed a sigh of relief with the court decision.
“The hearing is preogressing on a positive note and we are hopeful that the systems would be in a place by safeguarding the environment as well as the mining industry”, Naik told goanews.com.
