Goa beach shacks to have toilets & CCTVs

Goa’s beach shacks would be now leased out for three years, with toilet facilities and CCTV monitoring.
The shacks would run for nine months – from 1 September to 30 May, after which the temporary structure has to be demolished.
Tourism minister Dilip Parulekar today announced the cabinet decision of a new beach shack policy.
“We have finalised it after meeting al the 12 MLAs of the whole coastal belt”, said chief minister Manohar Parrikar.
The policy has debarred foreigners from running any beach shack while also making sub-leasing the shack illegal.
The beach shacks, on the government land, have been restricted to total 350.
However, there would be no bar on the number of shacks in the private property, along the coastline.
The government has decided to allot 90 per cent shacks to experinced shack owners, dividing it as 60 per cent to those running it for over seven years, 20 per cent to those operating between four to six years and 10 per cent to the operators having experience of one to three years.
The rest 10 per cent would be alloted to new applicants, said Parulekar.
The policy has also stated that the shack fee would be hiked by Rs 5000 each year.
Besides toilets, the policy has also made it compulsory to have CCTV cameras installed at the shacks with 30-day footage stored.
No shack would be allowed to operate after 11.30 pm, said Parrikar.
