Compensation for mine truckers by 15 Aug

Over 5000 truck owners and 250 mining workers would be disbursed financial compensation form 15 August onwards.

Goa Electronics Ltd is the nodal agency, which will start disbursing the assistance after scrutinisng all the applications.

The truck owners are expected to get Rs 8000 for the first truck and Rs 4000 for the second truck per month with retrospective effect from October last year, since when mining was banned in Goa.

Similarly, the mining workers would get half of their gross salary, till mining is resumed.

GEL chairman Dattaprasad Naik said they had already approved applications of 3146 truck owners and 168 mining workers.

They have recieved applications from 6617 truck owners and 1841 mining workers.

However, he said, several forms have been kept pending due to technical difficulties like incomplete information.

Rather than simply rejecting the forms, the GEL has been personally contacting the applicants to properly fill the forms so that it could be sanctioned.

After completing these formalities, he is expecting to approve more applications of 1629 and 86 mining workers.

However, at the same time, the GEL has also rejected forms of 995 truck owners and 608 mining workers since they do not meet the criteria.
