Goan beaches are not safe: NCP

Goa’s world-famous tourism industry has come under severe criticism from within Goa, this time by the opposition Nationalist Congress Party.

NCP’s local chief spokesperson Trajano D’Mello, who hails from the tourism belt along Calangute, has alleged that the state tourism department is functioning absolutely directionless.

“The beaches are dirty, no proper toilet facilities and even no changing rooms for the tourists at the beaches”, said D’Mello at a press conference held today.

With crimes against women are increasing day by day in the tourist state, D’Mello said there are no enough safety measures taken for women, including installation of CCTVs.

While hawkers at the beaches are a permanent irritation, D’Mello pointed out that tourism minister Dilip Parulekar has also failed in fulfil his promise to clear all the illegal beachside encroachments.

To substantiate that his criticism is not being made as the opposition party, D’Mello also pointed out that similar kind of allegations are made also by the ruling party MLA Michael Lobo, who represents Calangute constituency.

“In fact Lobo has publicly announced that he would now approach the chief minister since the ministry had failed in getting the infrastructure in place”, he said.
