Kala Academy to form Yuva Clubs in Colleges

Goa Kala Academy is planning to form Yuva Clubs in schools and colleges to upgrade the skills of young artists in theatre.

GKA chairman Vishnu Wagh said the plan is a part of the vision the Academy is working upon for the next 25 years.

The GKA plans to send theatre personalities to the schools and colleges to train the students in theatre, from script writing to acting, directing and even handling the technical aspects like lighting, sets etc.

The Yuva Clubs would be exposed to theatre workshops, workshop productions and even other live presentations of dramas.

“It would then culminate into a Youth Drama Festival to be held at Kala Academy in Panaji once in a year”, said Wagh.

He also said that the GKA has increased the amount of prizes for the competitions of Konkani and Marathi dramas and Tiatr.

The first prize amount has been increased from Rs 25,000 to Rs one lakh, while second and third prize money would be henceforth Rs 50,000 and Rs 40,000.

In addition, there would be two consolation prizes of Rs 20,000 each, he added.

However, he made it a precondition that the quality of theatre should be upgraded by the Goan artists as money would not be the hurdle in producing a good drama. is now on Telegram & also Youtube. Kindly subscribe for free & remain updated.
