Politicians jailed as Cong brought RTI: Shantaram
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 12 July 2013 23:30 ISTMany politicians are going to jail on corruption charges because of the Right to Information Act brought in by the Congress, claims Rajya Sabha MP Shantaram Naik.
Right to Information Act provided transparency in the administration and exposed the misdeeds, he observed.
Contrary to this, Naik said, the BJP is today trying to stall all such good legislations by stalling the Parliament proceedings.
One such bill is the Citizens’ Charter Bill which provides to penalize the government servants who do not provide service to the public within specified time.
The second bill he referred to was Whistleblowers’ Bill which protects every citizen of the country who dares to expose the corrupt acts of those in power.
The third bill, said Naik, is the Land Acquisition bill that would provide rightful market price to any land that is acquired as well as additional compensation and employment to the people who lose their land.
While speaking on the prospects of forthcoming Parliamentary election next year, Naik felt that no secular party would remain with the NDA, after projecting Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi as the prime ministerial candidate.
With Modi’s close aide Amit Shah raising the Ram temple issue after visiting Ayodhya, Naik felt that the BJP is making Lord Ram the candidate campaigning for the election.
