PM should give package for mine-hit Goa: Sardinha

A senior Congress leader today asked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to sanction a financial package for Goa to bail out people hit by mining crisis.
"The Prime Minister has assured Rs 1,000 crore package for flood-ravaged Uttarakhand. It's a natural calamity. The priority should go there. But I hope that the financial package demanded for people affected by mining industry would also be materialised. I hope PM will extend some help to us," Francisco Sardinha, Goa MP, told reporters.
Goa government had demanded Rs 3,000 crore package to help people affected with closure of mining industry.
A delegation led by state Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar had recently met Prime Minister and Finance Minister P Chidambaram with their demand.
Goa had also placed its demand for financial package during its meeting with the Planning Commission.
Sardinha said he would personally follow up the matter with the union government.
"The case of Uttarakhand is different. They are hit by a tragedy. The Centre has to give money there," he said explaining that Goa might be delayed to get their demand passed.
The MP today announced Rs 10 lakh and month's salary as his contribution for the Uttarakhand relief fund.
