Trend is city; but villages excel in SSC

While Goa it witnessing increasing trend of urbanization for educational prospects of children, the SSC results speak otherwise.
Almost 39 high schools, including six government schools, mostly from the rural areas, have scored 100 per cent result in SSC examination this year.
With only one or two students failing in the SSC batch, the number swells to 97 schools, including 22 government high schools.
Goa has total 84 Government High Schools.
Most of these schools, again, are either situated in the so-called “backward” areas or in the suburban from where most of the parents send their children to city schools.
The only city schools, in spite of large number of students, who scored 100 per cent results, are -
- Fatima Convent High School, Margao (151 students)
- St Tereza High School, Vasco (106)
- Keshav Smruti High School, Dabolim, Vasco (93) and
- and K B Hedgewar High School, Panaji (86)
The government schools that scored cent per cent results in SSC examination are from Mencurem and Surla in Bicholim taluka, Nadora in Bardez, Sadolxem in Canacona, Agarwado in Pernem and Tisk-Usgao in Dharbandora.
In fact the Government High School at Tisk-Usgao, from where all 20 students passed, has most of the migrant labourers’ children studying.
The Government school of Sadolxem is scoring cent per cent result for the second time in last three years, with two distinctions from among the strength of 14.
Pernem, the northernmost taluka of Goa, has maximum number of 10 schools scoring cent per cent result.
Except the Viscount of Pernem High School situated in the Pernem town, all other nine schools are rural.
In fact Kamleshwar High School management has two schools in Korgao and both have scored cent per cent result – with 23 and 28 students.
Similar is the case of Nirakar Education Society in Canacona, whose both Mashem school (29 students) and Tudal school in tribal village of Gaodongrim (37 students) have scored 100 per cent.
This is the second consecutive year its Mashem school has scored cent per cent result.
The only talukas where no school could score cent per cent result are Sattari and Quepem.
Interestingly, even in Bardez, Tiswadi, Ponda and Salcete, most of the schools which performed with full passing are either based in the villages or in the suburban areas, from where parents send their children to the cities for better performance.

Quite good analysis of the SSC result.Definitely there is no difference in the way education is imparted in urban and rural areas. However,the only difference in cities is parents pay through their noses to get the extra attention for their wards from their tuition teachers. In villages the same is given by school teachers free of cost.
The success of rural schools also can be attributed to less number of students in classes.Hence there should be restrictions placed on the number of students admitted in each class.The ideal strength should be 25-30.Only then students will get attention and teachers would be able to do justice to them.CCE can be successfully implemented if we have this ideal number of pupils in classes.
However it should not be difficult for city schools which admit students after screening,since few students would need remedial measures to cope up.
Parents of children from the villages who can afford, send their children to the city schools for better results.
It is so nice to learn that schools from the rural areas have done very well.
This shows that schools from the rural areas are equally good or may even be better than many city schools.
These rural schools should get more facilities like playgrounds.
I also feel that maximum schools in Goa should have NCC (either army branch or naval branch). This will inculcate discipline in the children and many will get inspiration to join the armed forces.
Recently SSCE and HSSE Results were declared. News papers are loaded with the compliments for the high achieving and sucessful students.
But what about the remaining students? Dint they aspire to achieve high? Didn't they put in their full efforts to achieve success? I m sure nobody want to be a looser in their life.
What matters is proper Guidance, environment and Facilities along with the hard work of the students. Many schools are boasting about 100% results. The schools that boast about 100 % results have the right to boast about their achievements only if they did not conduct so called eligibility tests at the time of students admission in school. Many schools in city conduct entrance test and select only the students with high IQ . If these schools get 100% results what"s a great deal in it?
As compared to city school Village Schools in real sense follow RTE Act. There is no test at the entry level. Every child is given admission to school, irrespective of their IQ levels. Here the Teachers play very important role in molding the child. The students from villages have very less exposure to extra facilities or educational tools as their city counterparts can avail. And with the minimal facilities, they have to struggle to achieve their goals. The village students are hard working, obedient, dedicated. But what they sometimes lack is self confidence. We cannot turn a blind eye to the quality of scores of students from city schools. Overall it is higher in city schools then the village schools.
Government comes out with so many plans to improve Education. One such scheme was Tutorials for SC/ST students by Social welfare department for the students who aspired to answer NEET or GCET after their XII. But the implementation of these scheme fails as it is not planned properly. This year the students were invited for coaching classes just before 15 days of GCET . Students from remote places like Canacona, Quepem, Sanguem, Bicholim, Pernem, Valpoi have no provision for Coaching classes for NEET and GCET. Village students sometimes have no clue about how to prepare for these competitive tests. It’s the privilege only to City students who can attend Coaching classes available in cities by spending lakhs of rupees just for two years. If Government has a dream of bringing up development in the field of Education , then its time to plan and implement the schemes that will benefit all the students equally. If Timely guidance is given to the village students, they too can excel in competitive exams. When students all over the state answer common papers they all should be given equal opportunities by proving them common coaching classes at convenient centers so that the students can perform to the best of their ability.
The law of Evolution states that the fittest will survive. So let all the students get equal opportunities and let the fittest individuals emerge sucessful.
