10 more LPG outlets in villages
GAARGI BHAT, PANAJI | 19 May 2013 13:30 ISTGoa will have 10 more outlets of LPG cylinders.
Hindustan Petroleum and Bharat Petroleum have decided to appoint 10 more LPG distributors in the villages of Goa under Rajiv Gandhi Gramin LPG Vitarak Scheme.
In North Goa, Diwar, Chimbel, Anjuna, Arpora and Halarn will have new distributors in Tiswadi, Bardez and Pernem talukas.
South Goa outlets would be in Velim, Quepem, Poinguinim, Dharbandora and Collem villages of Salcete, Quepem, Canacona and Dharbandora talukas.
While welcoming the decision, GOACAN has demanded to provide 10 more regular LPG distributors, catering to the city consumers.
The city-based consumers are presently facing hardships due to the inability of some of the existing distributors to provide efficient service, said Roland Martins of GOACAN.
The NGO working for the consumers however feel that this step would dismantle the present monopoly of the existing LPG distributors in Goa while providing relief to the harassed LPG consumers.
According to Martins, however, the problem of poor service and harassment of the consumers will continue until more LPG dealers are appointed in different parts of Goa.
GOACAN had earlier launched a sustained campaign from October last year, through protest actions, letter petitions and delegations to the District Collectors and Deputy Collectors demanding more LPG distributors.
They had also written to the Chief Minister and Civil Supplies Minister, the Chairman and Managing Directors of the three Petroleum Companies and three Members of Parliament from Goa.
The problems faced by the LPG consumers were then also highlighted and discussed by MLAs from all political parties in the just concluded session of the Goa Assembly.
