Babu quizzed by ACB for 5.30 hours
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 14 May 2013 18:58 ISTCongress MLA Babu Kavalekar was quizzed for almost five and a half hours by the Anti Corruption Bureau today in a disproportionate assets case.
Babu entered the office of ACB at 1 pm today, to move out only at 6.30 pm.
His statement was recorded by PI Vincent Paes in detail.
“I have told them everything they wanted to know. I will come again if they require me”, Babu told the media persons after he came out.
ACB SP Bosco George said the case is still under investigation and only the statement of preliminary inquiry has been recorded so far.
The ACB has booked the Quepem MLA for amassing disproportionate wealth worth Rs 5.5 crore while being the chairman of the Industrial Development Corporation.
The ACB gathered certified copies of his assets in Kerala from the sub-registrar office and found that he has not shown it in the affidavit he had sworn before the Election Commission of India, while filing his nomination.
He is believed to have purchased nine properties of rubber plantations near Sabrimala in Kerala.
None of these properties has been shown in the affidavit filed before the Election Commission.
The affidavit shows income returns of him and his wife, worth Rs 17.69 lakh, with a total of Rs 35.38 lakh only.
