Babu to appear before ACB on 14 May

Congress MLA Babu Kavlekar, accused in a disproportionate assets case, today said he would depose before the Anti-Corruption Bureau of Vigilance department on May 14, producing all the required documents.

"I am innocent in the entire case. I have all the documents to prove that there is no illegality," Kavlekar told PTI.

The legislator has been booked under the Anti Corruption Act for purchasing properties in Kerala allegedly through ill-gotten wealth during his tenure as Chairman of state-run Industrial Development Corporation.

Kavlekar, belonging to Dhangar community, said that he is ready to face the inquiry by ACB.

"I will depose before ACB on May 14 providing them all the documents to prove my innocence," he said.

The ACB has filed a case for possessing assets disproportionate to known sources of his income -- about Rs 5.5 crore -- against Kavlekar.

The ACB has stated that Babu has amassed the wealth during his seven-year tenure as the chairman of the Industrial Development Corporation.

The ACB gathered certified copies of his assets in Kerala from the sub-registrar office and found that he has not shown it in the affidavit he had sworn before the Election Commission of India, while filing his nomination.

He is believed to have purchased nine properties of rubber plantations near Sabrimala in Kerala.

None of these properties has been shown in the affidavit filed before the Election Commission.

The affidavit shows income returns of him and his wife, worth Rs 17.69 lakh, with a total of Rs 35.38 lakh only.

It doesn`t look like this corrupt ...of the 1st Order, will be suffering from any Chest pains just yet...but.....until he is being marched to the nearest jail ,to share some "jail space" with blood thirsty mosquitoes & hungry rats.

Like many dishonourable Goan crooks , he has no doubt covered some of his tracks. A part of the paper trail will have been destroyed by now, no doubt.

A surprise raid of all his known properties would have probably unearthed a lot more damning evidence.

Sadly Babu Kavelkar has been given a lot of time to conceal much of the evidence.

It would not be out of good reason, that he has also salted some of his ill-gotten wealth abroad. This is a very traditional method of hiding wealth for a rainy day or a very comfortable retirement.
