Alina proposes cycle lanes on roads

Goa’s roads would slowly have separate lanes for cycles if environment and forest minister Alina Saldanha succeeds in convincing her cabinet colleagues.
She plans to propose it in the next cabinet meeting.
“I will put up a cabinet note in this regard shortly”, Saldanha announced while flagging off a cycle rally organized by Rotary Club in Margao yesterday.
According to her cycling would benefit in three ways: reduce the overload of vehicles on the roads, reduce pollution and keep people fit and healthy.
She agreed, when pointed out, that cycling is not very safe due to overspeeding vehicles on Goan roads.
“But we can choose cycling on short-distance roads, provided there is a separate lane for cycles”, said Saldanha.
She also narrated her experience of China, where cycles have contributed to country’s economy in a big way.
She also reminded the gathering one effort of education department in the past to give cycles to girl students in order to encourage cycling.
Alina herself should set the example of cycle ride by getting rid of her red bacon car.
Why only to girls ? Give cycles to boys also.
I commend Hon. Minister Alina Saldanha for this important proposal of having separate lanes for cycles on Goa roads.
There are such separate lanes in most of the developed nations of the world.
Goa is a fit case to implement this this idea and I hope this will materialise soon.
This might work in Towns & the City & Highways.
However many drivers in Goa do not exercise or have Road manners nor follow Road /Traffic disciplines.
