File 3rd mining affidavit, don't confront CEC; pleads Cong
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 19 April 2013 20:23 ISTThe opposition Congress has requested Goa government to file a third affidavit in the Supreme Court, falling in line with the Centrally Empowered Committee and not confrontationist in nature.
“With Supreme Court accepting all the recommendations made by the CEC in Karnataka mining case, it will spell doom for Goa if we don’t change our approach”, said Congress MLA Vishwajeet Rane.
He said he is addressing the press conference on behalf of the party organization as well as the legislature party.
He felt the BJP-led government need to take unified approach before the apex court, in consultation with all the stakeholders in the mining industry, if not the mine owners.
Based on the categorization made by the CEC, the Supreme Court yesterday shut down 49 mines involved in all kind of illegalities.
“In such a situation, we cannot afford to take a stand of confrontation by challenging the CEC,” opined Vishwajeet.
Goa government, in its earlier two affidavits, had blamed the CEC, claiming to have been taking one-sided approach.
“The Karnataka verdict makes it clear that the Supreme Court listens to the CEC and not the state government,” observed Vishwajeet.
If Goa government continues with the same approach, said the Congress MLA, we would invite closure of almost all the mines.
According to him, this is the time not for infighting over petty issues but going to the apex court with one common stand taken by all the stakeholders in mining as well as the political parties and the bureaucracy.
“We want legal mining to continue as our economy is still largely dependent on mining,” he reminded.
Even ordinary Goan Citizens, do not trust their Government.
The Congress Party are the worst. It is infested with crooks & embezzlers.
Many have become Super Super Rich, through corrupt activities.
