Aires hails Guv, demands Uttarakhand pattern of Lokayukta

Social activist Aires Rodrigues has hailed the decision of Goa Governor BharatVir Wanchoo not to accord his assent to the draconian and unjustified amendments to the Goa Lokayukta Act.

Adv. Rodrigues has appealed to Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar to now pass in the current session of the Assembly the
promised amendments on the lines of the Uttarakhand Lokayukta Act.

This would empower the Goa Lokayukta Act with the right powers and teeth to tackle the current rampant corruption and mal administration prevalent in the State, he said.

Adv. Rodrigues has also suggested that the Goa Government should seek the advice of former Karnataka Lokayukta Justice Santosh Hedge while finalizing these amendments.

Adv. Rodrigues has also demanded that the fee of Rs 500 required to be paid by those filing a complaint before the Lokayukta should be scrapped as it would put off citizens from filing cases of corruption and mal administration before the Lokayukta.

Adv. Rodrigues has also demanded that Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar should come clear on who really had proposed those draconian amendments now sent back by the Goa Governor.
