Cancer hospital in Goa in 4 years: Parsekar

Goa will have its own cancer hospital in next four years.
Health minister Laxmikant Parsekar said the process in this regard has already begun.
One such attempt made in this regard for a private hospital a decade ago had not fully succeeded due to several other hurdles.
Though the Goa Medical College as well as Manipal hospital also treats several cancer patients, there is no full-fledged hospital available in Goa.
Cancer patients thus mostly depend upon Tata Memorial hospital in Mumbai or elsewhere.
Parsekar said the government is also starting para-medical courses at BSc level in five different streams as otherwise the state has to depend upon institutes outside.
The government would also start MSc in Nursing within a year or two, he said.
In order to make it compulsory to have qualified nursing education in the private institutes, he said a bill would be introduced in the ongoing Assembly session.
Parsekar informed the House tonight that the superspeciality block would be ready shortly in the GMC complex, besides new boys’ and girls’ hostels as well as an auditorium.
The government has also once again announced their plans to send their PG passed out students to the Primary Health Centres as Junior Consultants, at least for one year.
This would reduce the burden on district hospital and the GMC while facilitating patients in getting treatment at village level.
