BJP-Cong join hands to oppose Playboy in Goa

The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party as well as the opposition Congress have joined hands in Goa to oppose the proposed Playboy at Candolim in Goa.

The project is believed to have been under consideration of the tourism department.

The property allotted for the proposed project belongs to former Congress MLA from Calangute, Agnelo Fernandes.

Michael Lobo of the BJP, who defeated Agnelo in last Assembly election in Calangute, has threatened to go on hunger strike, if club is given permission, claiming that the Playboy would encourage vulgar tourism in the State.

“We are definitely taking into consideration the objections by Lobo. We will talk to the government,” said BJP spokesperson Dr Wilfred Mesquita

He was flanked by Goa Unit President Vinay Tendulkar and party’s national secretary Aarati Mehra, during the press conference.

Mesquita said that the party is against anything that not in tandem with the morality.

“BJP will never support the club,” the spokesman said. He added that such a club would not be beneficial for the culture of Goa.

PB Franchisee earlier last year had announced their plan to open branch at Candolim as a part of the their nationwide plans to open 120 clubs, hotels, fashion cafes and shops in India over the next 10 years.

State tourism minister Dilip Parulekar had postponed the reply about the club on the floor of the House on Tuesday when it came in the form of Calling Attention motion moved by Lobo, during the ongoing State Legislative Assembly session.

On the other hand, the opposition Congress party too has expressed their reservation over Playboy club in Goa, claiming that the club won’t be successful in Goa.

All India Mahila Congress Committee (AIMCC) President Anita Verma told reporters in Goa that tourists who arrive in Goa come here for peace.

“The concept like Playboy will not work for work in the State of Goa,” she said.

She stated that it should be decision of the public of the state whether to allow or not to allow such a club in the state.

Goa attracts 2.4 million tourists annually.

There are enough of Playboys going around and raping innocent kids and young girls in the State. There is sufficient turmoil in Goa and this Playboy Club is going to create more problems. Many tourists are keeping their distance for the sole cases of rapes. They come here to enjoy themselves on the beaches (which are now not clean and safe any more) Besides there are rapes, robberies around, and they are so scared to visit Goa. This Playboy Club is going to add more fuel in the fire. The little peace which we have will all be destroyed. Politicians don"t run after money. You never know who is going to be the next target....maybe a member of your family. Don"t invite trouble..let the Goans live in little peace.
