Action against mine looters from Aug: CM

Chief minister Manohar Parrikar has now assured to start attaching properties of those who looted the state through illegal mining, by August.

He has also stated firmly that all the mining property, including the dumps and non-working mines, except the leases which were given environmental clearance, would be taken over as the ‘government property’.

Following Justice Khandeparkar committee, Parrikar said he would appoint technical experts including the chartered accountants to track down all the culprits involved in illegal mining.

“Former mines director Arvind Lolayekar has played up even with data, which needs to be streamlined to track down the culprits”, he told the Assembly today.

According to him, the whole matter was quite complicated and almost 461 mining traders have been registered, who were exchanging hands with the iron ore to finally one person exporting it.

By August, Parrikar said the actual action of sending notices and even attaching properties would begin.

“I assure you not to spare anyone. Everyone who looted the state would be brought to books”, he told the members while speaking on demands for grants on mining.

According the chief minister, almost 30 per cent mining dumps are in the government land.

Besides this, all the mines except the functioning mines is also the government property.

“We will take over the dumps in all the government property and would auction it when Supreme Court permits us do so”, he said.

He also felt quite firm on recovering rent as well as conversion fee, estimated to around Rs 300 crore, from those who have dumped iron ore in the government as well as private property.
