400 bikes enter Panaji every minute

Almost 400 two-wheelers enter Panaji city every minute, during peak hours in the morning.
This is a statistics provided by chief minister Manohar Parrikar, by personally counting bikes at the Mandovi bridge in the morning.
According to him, there are 15 two-wheelers he counted behind every four-wheeler entering Panaji, the capital city of Goa.
He was basically speaking on how his decision of neutralizing VAT on petrol has benefited the middle class and especially the owners of two-wheelers.
“Goa has lost revenue of Rs 200 crore due to not imposing VAT on petrol”, he informed the House.

The real loss however is around Rs 165 crore, he said, since Rs 35 crore out of it is saved on government vehicles.
Out of Rs 140 crore lost on private vehicles, Parrikar said almost Rs 65 crore is only on two-wheelers.
The Economic Survey figures also indicate, as goanews.com observed, that not less than 140 two-wheelers get registered in Goa every day.
Parrikar also said Goa has recorded 25 per cent growth in consumption of aviation fuel due to increase in number of seats in the flights.
However, he said, the diesel consumption has reduced by 35 per cent, mainly due to mining ban.
“We have lost a revenue of Rs 100 crore also on this front, in addition to Rs 200 crore on petrol”, said Parrikar.
