Mamlatdar selling fake ration cards: Lobo

Mamlatdar are selling fake ration cards to migrant labour for Rs 5000, Calangute MLA Michael Lobo has alleged.

According to him, this scandal has been going for the last seven years.

The majority migrant communities getting these fake ration cards are Bangla Deshi and Nepalis, alleged Lobo.

Lobo also pointed out that the migrants are issued these ration cards without getting cancellation certificate of their ration card at their native place.

Civil supplies minister Dayanand Mandrekar says the inquiry report into this has established that no fake ration cards are detected.

“How will it proved when Mamlatdar, who are involved in selling ration cards, conduct the inquiry”, he asked.

The issue was hotly debated in the Assembly yesterday, though only between Lobo and Mandrekar.

Mandrekar however admitted that proper inquiry could not be conducted as there were no specific inputs about which migrants and where do they stay.

“The Mamlatdar claims that his office is short of manpower and house-to-house scrutiny is not possible, especially when the location is also not known”, said the minister.

Intervening into the discussion, chief minister suggested to Lobo to cite few cases and a fresh probe would be conducted.

However, he said the whole problem would be resolved once electronic ration cards are issued.

“We will then won’t need Mamlatdar”, said Parrikar.

He also said a separate division would be created within three months only to deal with the issue ration cards.
