Wellness Council to deal with students' stress

Wellness Council is a concept Goa plans to go ahead with, to help the teenagers with problems like stress, depression and succumbing to vices or even suicides.

The concept was mooted by chief minister Manohar Parrikar today, while speaking on higher education in the Assembly.

“I will soon set up the Wellness Council to deal with several problems the students as well as the teaching community is facing in the field of higher education”, said Parrikar.

Elaborating on the concept further, director of higher education Principal Bhaskar Naik later told goanews.com that counseling would be the major component of the Council.

The student community needs to be oriented in a proper direction to overcome all kind of hurdles they face, he said, which the Council would take up.

Parrikar also announced today his plans to set up a state level council of Higher Education, to provide focused direction to Goa’s higher education through experts in the field of academics.

He also said the state would have its own IAS Training Institute, a scheme was announced much earlier but was never implemented.

Parrikar has also announced to float his old scheme of Bursary, which he could not implement during his last tenure as he lost power.

Under the scheme, he said, student would be given an interest-free loan up to Rs 30,000 if his or her fees are up to Rs 45,000.

“It is not obligatory to repay this loan but the government would be happy if it is repaid”, said Parrikar.

He however did not elaborate on it further.
