Snake-eater King Cobra rescued in Sattari

King Cobra found in Sattari near Mhadei Sanctuary

Amrutsingh, a nature lover, has rescued a King Cobra in Hivrem-Khurd village of Sattari taluka near a distillery unit.

Pradip Zarmekar, who was collecting cashew apples spotted the King Cobra on a cashew tree and alerted Amrutsingh.

With the help of volunteers Tanmay Naik and Yogendra Gawas of Animals Rescue Squad, Amrutsing rescued the king cobra successfully.

“It was 10.5 ft King Cobra. Last year, during the same period, I had caught a similar King Cobra in the same area,” said Amrutsing.

Amrutsingh had rescued two King Cobras in April last year in Thane-Dongurli village.

One found at Hivrem-Khurd was 13 feet long while another one was 12 feet long found at Rustic Farm in Hivrem, he said.

Both these villages are adjacent to the Mhadei Wildlife Sanctuary of Sattari.

The staple diet of King Cobra is snakes, especially the poisonous snakes and all other species including Monitor lizards.

“King cobras are normally found near distillery units as red snakes move around such distilleries”, informed Amrutsing.
