GRM hopes CM honours his word on MoI

The Goa Rakhan Manch, revised version of Facebook group Get Well Soon Mr Digambar Kamat, has expressed hope that chief minister Manohar Parrikar would honour his word at least now, on the issue of Medium of Instruction.

The GRM however has reiterated its demand to reconvert all 130 Church-run primary schools from English to Konkani, while terming the government action of giving them grants as illegal.

GRM leader Yugank Naik, in a press note, has welcomed the government decision to constitute Academic Authority under Right to Education Act within four months.

He however did not forget to remind that a similar Authority, formed last year under the chairmanship of Luis Varnal, was finally merged into the SCERT, without taking any decision on the MoI issue.

“Although the formation of the Academic Council is a welcome step in the right direction, we need to ensure that it is taken to its logical conclusion”, said Naik.

The GRM has also complimented Parrikar for taking a path breaking step and presenting half of his budget in Konkani.

The group of youth, which was formed through the Facebook page, also lauded the CM for various steps with regard to primary education in Konkani, as follows:

1. The Government has planned to extend financial support to pre-primary schools in the regional languages. The assistance would be to the tune of Rs. 15,000 per month. This is indeed a welcome step and is definitely a move in the right direction.

2. An additional 12 lakhs one time grant and 1 lakh annual grant was announced for new Konkani/Marathi primary schools in the Medium of Instruction policy of the Government. It is heartening to see that it has formed a part of the budget. We hope the implementation of the same will be done in the right earnest.

3. The Government has granted permission to 68 new Konkani and Marathi primary schools in the last one year. We extend our compliments to the CM and congratulate him on making the right efforts to promote primary education in the regional languages.
